Max Freeman is a trial lawyer, representing individuals in major litigation throughout the United States for over 40 years with a specific emphasis on birth injury medical malpractice and hospital liability.
After almost twenty-five years as a defense lawyer defending doctors and hospitals in birth injury and medical negligence cases, Max switched sides in 2000 and now limits his practice to representation of those injured by the misconduct of others across the United States almost exclusively in birth injury cases.
Max has handled birth trauma and medical negligence cases in Texas, Arkansas, Alabama, Arizona, Georgia, Oklahoma, Ohio, New York, Utah, West Virginia.
Max is heavily involved in the education of attorneys in the area of birth trauma and medical negligence. Max served as co-editor of the American Association of Justice’s Birth Trauma Litigation Group’s BTLG) newsletter. Max later served as co-chair of BTLG arranging the leading attorney education seminars on the topic of birth injury and birth trauma. Max also served as co-chair of AAJ’s Medical Negligence Section from 2012-2014.
Max has presented at numerous attorney conferences on the issues arising in birth injury lawsuits. Max has a unique understanding of the subtleties of interpreting fetal monitoring strips and continually provides education to the firm’s younger attorneys and para-professional staff on this issue.
In recognition of his knowledge and achievements, Max is a member of a number of healthcare professional groups that provide guidance to physicians and nurses who practice obstetrics and labor and delivery. Max is a member of the American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology (ACOG) which is the leading professional group that provides training, guidelines and treatment protocols to Obstetricians involved in the managing the pregnancies and labor and delivery of babies. Max is also a member of Association of Women’s Health, Obstetric and Neonatal Nurses which is the leading professional and training organization for labor and delivery and neonatal nurses. Max also holds a membership in the American College of Healthcare Executives, the organization comprised of hospital leaders including those heading up Obstetrical and Neonatal units.
Max is admitted to practice before the United States Supreme Court, Texas Supreme Court, Oklahoma Supreme Court, Arkansas Supreme Court, Arizona Supreme Court, Indiana Supreme Court, and numerous federal District Courts and Courts of Appeals.
He is a member of numerous bar associations and other organizations, including the American Association for Justice, Texas Trial Lawyers Association, Dallas Trial Lawyers Association (Director), Oklahoma Trial Lawyers Association, Arkansas Trial Lawyers Association, Public Justice Foundation, American Civil Liberties Union, and the American Bar Association. He is a member of The American Board of Trial Advocates (ABOTA) and also the College of the State Bar of Texas. He has served on the Texas Pattern Jury Committee (1989-1994) and is a frequent author and lecturer.
Born in Indianapolis, Indiana, Max graduated summa cum laude from Ball State University and cum laude from Indiana University School of Law. Max is AV rated by Martindale Hubble and has been repeatedly named in Best Lawyers in America, National Trial Lawyers, Top 100 Trial Lawyers, and Top Lawyers of Texas. He has also been listed in Texas Monthly as a Texas Super Lawyer.
