Some Companies Encourage the Use of Technology While Driving
Many trucking companies equip their vehicles with onboard computers or provide company cell phones to drivers to keep communication open between the truck and home office. Under federal law, these computers must contain a lockout device that prevents the driver from using it while the truck is in motion. Unfortunately, we have proven that some companies deliberately tamper with lockout devices and implicitly encourage drivers to use onboard systems en route to save on time and, ultimately, their own costs.

The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) has worked to prevent this problem, and under recently passed legislation, the FMCSA "prohibits texting by commercial motor vehicle (CMV) drivers while operating in interstate commerce.
